Introduction

Okay! I’ll admit it. I have an addiction. I‘ve hidden it for years and now I am publicly. I am a confessed addict. I haven’t yet sought help for my addiction because, quite frankly, I don’t know where to find a treatment center.

I am addicted to book – mostly children’s books! When I go to the bookstore with my husband or my sister, they look at the best sellers - the biographies, the political and the “heavy” reads. I head straight to the back of the store for the kid’s section.

Yep, I head straight for the picture book section of bookstores and even libraries. I can always feel the adrenalin rush when I enter a bookstore. I stop – I take a moment, take a deep breath, look around and bask in the moment. I let me senses take over. Oh, the sights, sounds and the smell! It’s a true sensory pleasure. I am on a high!

I am sure the adults in my family wonder about me. But that’s okay - there are benefits. Children’s books take less time to read! Also, my children and I share in book discussions. We talk about children’s books, while my sister and husband bore us with their adult “reads.”

So, I have confessed. Do I feel “better?” Ummmm - not really. I think I’ll just ask you to become part of my treatment program. I am inviting you to share my lust for picture. Join in the “conversation” and talk about the books you love. Let’s share ideas ways to make books more exciting in the classroom for teachers and at home for parents - and children. Let’s blog!
